British Cameroon merges with the Republic of Cameroon to form the Federal Republic of Cameroon.
Republic of Sierra Leone and Tanganyika become independent.
Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola - Party of Labour (MPLA) and National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) guerrilla against the Portugese for independence.

Kenneth Kaunda President of Zambia.

Zanzibar merges with Tanganyika to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar - later named United Republic of Tanzania.
Republic of Zambia becomes independent.
Nothern Rhodesia is renamed Zambia.
Nelson Mandela sentenced to life imprisonment on Robben Island.
Nyasaland is renamed Malawi and becomes independent.
