Born in Ulm, Württemberg, Germany to Hermann and Pauline Einstein.

Family moves to Münich, father Hermann and uncle Jakob found an electrical equipment firm.

Sister Maria or Maja is born.

Private tuition at home. Father gives Albert a compass which inspires him to investigate the natural wonders.

Receives Jewish religious instruction. Takes violin lessons. Enrolls in the second grade of a Catholic elementary Petersschule.

Passes the entrance exam and is accepted at the Luitpold Gymnasium in Munich.

Medical student and family friend Max Talmud introduces ten year old Albert to read about math science, Euclidean reasoning, and philosophy.

His father's engineering company fails, and the family moves to Italy, except Albert. He stays in Munich to finish the Luitpold Gymnasium schooling.

Drops out from school without a school leaving certificate to join his family in Italy. Fails the entrance exam for the Swiss Polytechnic inistitute in Zürich. Is admitted to the technical department of the Cantonal High School in Aarau, Switzerland. Moves in with the family of teacher Jost Winteler. Writes his first scientific work The Investigation of the State of Ether in Magnetic Fields.

Renounces his Württemburg-German citizenship and avoids military service. Graduates from high school. Attends mathematical, economics, geology, and physics lectures at the ETH Federal Polytechnic in Zurich to become a teacher.

Meets Michele Besso at a cultural event.

Falls in love with classmate Mileva Maric, from Titel, Austro-Hungarian Empire, today the Republic of Serbia, and Einstein studies closely with her. Best of his class in exams.
