| They announce the 7800 ProSystem along with 13 games. Atari discloses that the 5200 is no longer in production. More layoffs occur in June, reports say that nearly half the staff at Atari headquarters are laid off. Atari withdraws from a joint venture with Wong Electronics, who ends the 800XL computer production. The assets of Atari's home computer and home video game businesses are sold by Warner Communications to Tramel Technology Ltd. Atari, Inc becomes Atari Games, Inc.
Namco Ltd of Japan acquires the assets of the Atari Coin-Operated Games division. It establishes Atari Games Corp. Atari Games, Inc changes its name to Atari Holdings, Inc. Atari Holdings, Inc becomes involved with the bankruptcy proceedings of Pizza Time Theatre, Inc.
Public offering of shares of Atari Corp. stock on the American Stock Exchange sold $50.6 million of stock. Warner Communications received 7,100,000 shares.
A stock split of 2 for 1 occurred.
Time, Inc acquired the controlling interest in Warner Communications, renaming the company Time Warner, Inc.
Time Warner acquires 100% ownership of Warner Communications.
Atari Games becomes completely owned by Time Warner.
Williams, Interactive Inc acquires 100% of Atari Games. Time Warner still owns holdings in Showbiz Pizza Time Inc (formerly Pizza Time Theater) and the Atari Corp.
Showbiz Pizza Time Inc changes its name to CEC Entertainment, Inc.
AOL purchases Time Warner, creating AOL Time Warner.
AOL Time Warner reverts to Time Warner, Inc. Time Warner surrenders their remaining shares in CEC Entertainment.
