Bolivia History Timeline - Timeline Help

Bolivia history timeline part one of three from 6000 BCE to 2007 at Timeline Help. This chronology is about the Rooftop of the World. The name the country is given because of the beautiful Andes Mountains. All major events about the independence struggle, the founding of the republic in central South America, the revolutions, military turnovers and the turbulent first decade of this millenium are in my Bolivia history timeline.

Chili peppers are used in what we now call Bolivia, reported by modern scientific botanists.

Modern scientists report the use of coca plants.

The Incas rule.

Spain seizes Bolivia.

Silver is discovered in the Cerro Rico mountains near Potosi.

La Paz founded by Alonso de Mendoza. He calls it Nuestra Seńora de La Paz, meaning Our Lady of Peace.

Santa Cruz founded.

Spanish troops defeat the indigenous rebel army of Tupac Katari, who besieged La Paz.

Simón Bolívar born in Caracas, Venezuela, the man after whom Bolivia is named. Bolívar means Liberator.

Bolivian War of Independence.

General Simón Bolívar leads independence wars in South America.

Bolívar forms the Republic of Gran Colombia.

Bolivia declares its independence from Spain and Peru.

Simón Bolívar President of Bolivia.

Antonio Jose de Sucre President of Bolivia.

Gran Colombia falls to pieces. Nowadays part of Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana, Panama, Bolivia, Costa Rica, and Colombia.

Peru-Bolivian Confederation. War with Chile and Argentina.

Battle of Yungay, Chile defeats the Peruvian-Bolivian army.

Battle of Ingaví. Peruvian president General Gamarra invades Bolivia, but is defeated.

Peace agreement between Bolivia and Peru.

War of the Pacific. Bolivia loses the nitrate-rich Atacama coastal desert fields to Chile.

La Paz becomes the seat of government and administrative capital, Sucre the official capital.
