The Operation Peter Pan rumor. Thousands of Cuban families panic and send their children to other countries after rumors are spread that Cuban children will be brought up in state institutions.

CIA attempt to kill Castro fails. Cuban exile group Alpha 66 is founded in Miami. More on them later in Cuban missile crisis timeline 4.

A Cuban Literacy Campaign teacher and a student are killed.

The CIA enrolls Operation Mongoose to overthrow the Communist regime. Task Force W aids Cuban exiles to destroy Cuban and non-Cuban ships and aircraft which trade with Cuba.

Two CIA agents are captured in Pinar del Rio.

The U.S. discovers that the Cuban Revolutionary Air Force has Soviet MiG-15s, MiG-17s, and MiG-19s.

Cuba protests against U.S. violations of its territory.

U.S. arms droppings in Las Villas and Pinar del Rio are seized.

General Edward Lansdale reports the authorities involved in Operation Mongoose to seek the active support of Latin American and other Western Hemisphere nations for a revolt against Castro.

The Organization of American States nations gathered in Uruguay vote to expel Cuba from the OAS and to suspend armes sales to Cuba, after Secretary of State Dean Rusk states he will stop what he calls Castroism.

Cuba arrests some people for sabotizing the transportation system.

General William presents General Lansdale plans to disrupt the Cuban government.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert McNamara states that all U.S. allies must be prepared to meet the Cuban threat.

The Cuban Peoples' Assembly calls for a Latin American revolution in its Second Declaration of Havana to respond to the OAS decisions of late January in the Cuban missile crisis timeline 4.

Cuban U.N. Ambassador calls the OAS sanctions a violation of the U.N. Charter.

The United States Embargo Against Cuba is proclaimed; the economic, commercial, and financial embargo on all trade with Cuba.

The U.N. General Assembly rejects a resolution calling on the U.S. to stop its operations in Cuba.

The U.N. Security Council refuses an immediate meeting after the U.S. denies accusations that it is planning an invasion.

General Lansdale presents a full timetable for guerrilla and sabotage operations that must lead to the overthrowing of Castro in October.

U.S. State Department seeks all NATO allies to support the embargo on Cuba.
