| On Omaha Beach, the second assault wave of amphibious landings starts. Enemy mortar and artillery batteries.
At Pointe du Hoc, US Rangers start climbing the 30-meter cliff to attack the battery there is a real threat to the Omaha and Utah Beaches. On Omaha Beach, a Sherman tank destroys a gun battery.
H-Hour on and Sword and Gold Beaches. On Gold Beach, the 50th British Division begins to form a D Day invasion foothold near Arromanches.
On Sword Beach, the 3rd British Division lands. At Colleville, French soldiers of the Commando Group Kieffer captures the right bank of the Orne River, to assist the 6th Airborne, and later that day the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division to seize Caen and the aerodrome in Carpiquet. On Utah Beach, the 101st US Airborne starts moving inland to Audouville-la-Hubert and join forces with paratroopers.
H-Hour on Juno Beach, the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division lands.
On Omaha Beach, American troops start climbing the cliffs and hills, but they are constantly under enemy fire. Heavy losses.
On Omaha Beach, the Americans succeed in reaching the summit and finally control the sector.
On the Gold, Juno and Sword Beaches, the Canadian and British troops move ahead inland.
On Omaha Beach, the German 352nd Infantry Division surrenders.
At this time Adolf Hitler is informed by his generals.
The world is informed of the D-Day invasion by a press communiqué from the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces of General Eisenhower.
On Gold Beach, British divisions seize Hermanville. In Ouistreham, the French Commando Group Kieffer seizes the casino and blockhouse.
On Omaha Beach, the enemy fortification that blocks access to the Ruquet valley is destroyed.
General Rommel is informed of the D Day invasion, and travels from Germany to France.
The German 21st Panzer division is moving to Caen and Bayeux.
American troops secure Vierville.
Canadian troops secure St. Aubin.
