Launches second voyage from Cape Verde on May 16. Alonzo de Ojeda was the fleet commander. Turning south, they discovered Guyana, St. Augustine and the Amazon River. They were the first to cross the equator and became the first explorers in Brazil.

Arrives home in September and submitted his findings to the de Medici family.

Left on his third voyage on May 14 from Lisbon, Portugal. Amerigo enlists the expertise of Portuguese explorer Goncalo Coelho. They visited what would later become Rio de Janeiro, Rio de la Plata and the Falklands. It was on this journey that Amerigo declared that this land could not be Asia, since the flora and fauna did not match any of Marco Polo's descriptions.
