Timeline Help provides easy to access historical chronologies and history timelines of countries, regions, places, subjects, objects, technology inventions and people, with smooth introduction texts and extended bibliographies for educational purposes. My collection was last updated April 6, 2009. Watch it grow in the what's new blog. Below I explain how I research data, facts and figures.
My goal is to help succeed history students, teachers and professors with creative contemporary and ancient history timeline project ideas. Discover the past and enjoy!
My Categories
To keep the format nice and tidy, and easy to access for all, I have categorized them. No difficult entries or find it out yourself click till you drop navigation outline. Categories: Countries and Regions, Politics, Music, Science and Technology, Society and People, Sports, Space, Food and Health, Religion and Spirituality, and Miscellaneous. Select the one you like to read or need for a history education project.
My Definition
The definition I use here researching a timeline is a representation of a chronological sequence of significant activities, events and people in a certain time period, presented in an easy order of dates. I offer cited works, recommendations and interesting links to primary source information, quotations or authority citations. If exact dates are not available or disputed by historians, a year or decade is given.
My Research
I love to dive into the past and discover great or important world events or special people in world history. Sure, it takes time :-), serious effort, investigative research and accuracy to select and refine key facts I would like to know and show, till they are ready for publication for high school, college and university students, teachers, professors, and anyone else who is interested in history and want to learn from past major inventions, people, places and events.
My References
All history timeline information, dates and facts are retrieved from library books, journals, encyclopedias and magazine artcles. At each page you'll find short smart bibliographies, and a list of valuable cited works and recommended references to more interesting information. These cross-referencing bibliographies are styled in the general citation format of APA-citation, the most commonly used style in education and sciences. I prefer their revised 5th edition of the American Psychological Association.
Is It BCE or BC?
I use the terms BCE (Before Current Era) and CE (Current Era). Some chronologies have BC (Before Christ, and AD Anno Domini - meaning Year of Our Lord) notations, referring to the Christian calendar. But I rather choose for BCE and CE, because they are most common and accepted abbreviations historians and educators use in designating and exploring the era of prehistory, the ancient antiquity and the common era.
Every Week a New One
I publish weekly a new event timeline, it takes about three days of researching library, magazines and interesting journalistic sources. And five days of writing and grouping facts and data in the perfect chronological order.
