The Indus Valley is invaded by Alexander the Great.

King Chandragupta Maurya of Magadha purchases the Indus Valley and establishes a new dynasty. The city of Pataliputra is the new capital.

The Chola dynasty is established in southern India. Their capital city is Thanjavur.

Bindusara, the son of Chandragupta, increases the empire to include the Deccan region.

Ashoka, the emperor of Maurya, converts to Buddhism. He sends Buddhist missionaries to all neighboring regions.

The Maurya Empire covers almost the whole region of India.

Andhras take over the east coast of India.

The end of the Maurya dynasty. The Sunga dynasty begins.

The Bhagavata Gita is written.

The Sunga dynasty ends.

One of the apostles of Jesus, Thomas, visits India. Sanchi becomes the site for the construction of the first Buddhist stupa.

The Manu code is established, setting out rules for everyday life. It divides Hindus into four major castes. These castes include the Brahmins, the warriors, the farmers / traders and the non-Aryans.

The Pallava dynasty is established.

Two giant statues of Buddha are carved in the rock in Afghanistan.
