Founds the Charles L Webster Publishing Company and tours the United States giving lectures.

Publishes The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Charles L Webster Publishing prints the first volume of Personal Memoirs of U. S. Grant.

Forms a partnership with James Paige to aid the development of the Paige Compositor. Buys half interest in the new invention.

Is awarded an honorary Master of Arts degree from Yale University.

Publishes A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. The book is panned.

Buys all rights to the Page typesetter. Mother, Jane Clemens, dies this year.

The family comes upon financial difficulties, resulting in their leaving their Hartford home to live in Europe.

Meets Mahatma Gandhi. Completes his world tour. Daughter Susy dies of spinal meningitis. Publishes Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc.
