- Week 8 | Puppies begin to develop whisker buds, toes and claws. They actually resemble dogs at this point. Gender can be discovered at this point. Eyes now close. Puppies grow from 18 mm to 30 mm this week. Organs are fairly complete now. Your dog will begin to look visibly pregnant and her weight will increase.
Puppies develop skin pigment. They weigh approximately 6 grams and are about 45 mm long. Using a stethoscope, fetal heartbeats can be detected. Your dog's abdomen will continue to grow larger. Her nipples will get larger and darker.
Puppies continue to grow and develop. Your dog will begin to lose her belly hair and really begin to look pregnant.
Puppies can be seen moving when your dog is resting. It is now safe for puppies to be born. Your dog may have milk appear when her nipples are squeezed.
