Puppy Development Timeline 3 - Timeline Help

Puppy development timeline part 3 of 5 from pregnancy week 9 to birth week 1 at Timeline Help.

Puppy Development Timeline 3
1 2 4 5

- Pregnancy     Week 9

- At Birth

- Week 1
Puppies continue to grow.
Your dog may begin creating a place for her puppies.
She may pant, pace or act uncomfortable or distressed.
Her temperature will be between 100.2 and 100.8 degrees Fahrenheit. When her temperature drops to 98 to 99.4 degrees, labor is imminent.
Her appetite may disappear.

Puppies will seek out their mother's nipples to drink colostrums. This gives them antibodies to help fight disease and prepares their stomachs for food.
Puppies will have their eyes and ears closed tightly.

Puppies will sleep 90% of the time and spend the other 10% eating.
They are very sensitive to heat and cold.
They can instinctively crawl, eat and seek warmth.
When laid on their backs, they can right themselves.
They cannot urinate or defecate unless they are stimulated to do so.
Their central nervous system is developing rapidly.
They routinely lose about 10% of their body weight after birth, but gain it back quickly.
Weight will double by the end of this week.
