A large refractor is built by the Astrophysical Observatory Potsdam in Germany. The Solar Observatory at Mount Wilson in California is founded. Percival Lowell discovers the asteroid 793 Arizona orbiting the Sun. The Hale reflector telescope at Mount Wilson in California is established. The Berlin Observatory Potsdam, Germany constructs a large optical refractor. A large refractor is built by the Allegheny Observatory Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, U.S. The 100 inch Hooker Mount Wilson is completed in California. American astronomer George Willis Ritchey and French astronomer Henri Chrétien make the large Cassegrain Ritchey-Chrétien telescope. The Vanguard II satellite is launched with optical telescopes to measure reflection of light.
