Abdur Rahman Khan becomes Amir of Afghanistan. July After the Battle of Maiwand the British withdraw from Afghanistan.
The Panjdeh Incident. Russian forces seize territory in northern Afghanistan.
The Durand line - the eastern border separating Afghanistan from British India is fixed.
The northern border with Russia is fixed.
October 1 Abdur Rahman Khan dies. His son Habibullah Khan becomes amir.
The Convention of St. Petersburg. Russia and Great Britain declare Afghanistan outside Russia's sphere of influence
February 20 Habibullah Khan is assassinated, and he is succeeded by his pro-western son Amanulla. Many leaders will be murdered in this timeline Afghanistan series. May Third Anglo-Afghan War, in the end British forces are defeated. August 19 Afghanistan becomes independent.
Emir Amanullah Khan becomes king.
Islamic leaders revolt against Amanullah.
Habibullah Kalakani and Mohammed Nadir Shah force Amanullah to abdicate and to flee. Habibullah Kalakani is king.
Mohammad Nadir Khan kills Habibullah Kalakani, and declares himself king.
Nadir Khan abolishes all reforms to modernize Afghanistan.
November 8 Nadir Shah is assassinated. His son Mohammed Zahir Shah is proclaimed king and rules rules until 1973.
The U.S.A formally recognizes Afghanistan.
Zahir Shah proclaims Afghanistan as neutral in World War II.
Great Britain withdraws from India, and Pakistan is formed out of Indian and Afghan lands in the Durand Treaty.
Afghanistan's Parliament denounces the new boundaries Pakistan- Afghanistan of the Durand Treaty.
Pro-Soviet General Prince Mohammed Daoud Khan becomes prime minister. He developes close economic and military ties with the Soviet Union.
The U.S.A. rejects Afghanistan's request for military help.
U.S.S.R. Prime Minister Nikita Khrushchev agrees to help, and develops close ties between Afghanistan and the Sovjet Union. There will be another role of the Soviet Union later on in this timeline Afghanistan
More rights for women are established.
The Pashtunistan issue nearly leads to a war between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Mohammed Daoud Khan forced to resign as Prime Minister. Mohammad Yusof becomes Prime Minister.
Ratification of a new democratic which introduces the constitutional monarchy.
January 1 First congress of the Marxist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan. Founders are Babrak Karmal and Nur Mohammad Taraki. September First nationwide elections. Babrak Karmal is elected to the parliament.
Parliamentary elections.
