Palace of Knossos is destroyed. This palace belonged to King Minos, and according to mythology, was designed by Daedalus.
Raids begin on the Eastern Mediterranean from the sea.
The Trojan War takes place. When Paris stole Helen from her husband, Menelaus, the king of Sparta, war was waged against the city of Troy. Considered to be myth, Troy was discovered and excavated in recent years, and is now widely accepted as a historical event.
Doric Invasions take place. The fall of the Mycenean takes place.
Miletus is destroyed. The area is resettled. The Dark Age begins.
Dorics migrate to the Aegean islands.
Mythology evolves into a complex pantheon. The Greek alphabet is invented.
Monarchies in the city states slowly change to aristocratic republics.
First Olympic Games are held in honor of Zeus, in Olympia. Competitions included jumping, wrestling, chariot racing and javelin. The winner was crowned with olive branches.
The Odyssey and the Iliad are written by Homer. Greek colonies are created in Sicily and Southern Italy. City states are separate political bases that are each ruled separately by a king and a council.
First Messenian War begins when Sparta invades Messenia. Syracuse and Naxos are founded.
Lelantine war takes place in Euboia.
