Wins the US Amateur Championship, Western Amateur Championship, the Southern California Golf Association Amateur Championship, the Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship, the CIF Southern Section Championship, and the WilliamTucker Invitational. Semifinalist in the California State Amateur Championship. 5th in the NCAA Championships. 6th in the Porter Cup. 41st in the PGA Masters in Augusta, his first professional major tournament. The NCAA gives Woods one-day suspension penalty from the Stanford team for writing a diary as amateur for the Golf World and Golfweek magazines during the Masters. 67th at the British Open at St. Andrews, Scotland. Plays in the Johnny Walker Asian Classic in Thailand, the Nestle Invitational, Buick Classic, and Western Open in Chicago. Member of the US Team in the World Amateur Championships in Versailles, France, and of the US Team in the Walker Cup in Porthcawl, Wales. Withdraws from US Open because of a wrist injury. Voted LA Times and Orange County Player of the Year, Golf World's Man of the Year, Pac 10 Player of the Year, GolfWeek Magazine Pre-season First Team All-American, and Stanford's 1995 Male Freshman of the Year. Golf's Amateur Representative for the Sullivan Award.

Leaves Stanford to become a Golf Professional, and signs a contract with Nike and Titleist. First signs of Tigermania.
