Anglo-German agreement on German Tanganyika. Great Britain recognises French claims in Madagascar. France recognizes the British Zanzibar Protectorate. France conquers Segou in the Middle Niger Valley. The Heligoland Treaty, Anglo-German Colonial Agreement recognizes British claims in East Africa. Cecil Rhodes becomes Prime Minister of the Cape Colony. Rhodes seizes Ndebele land, later named Rhodesia, and founds Salisbury, later named Harare. Namibia, Rwanda and Burundi become German colonies.
