| Applies for Swiss Citizenship. Becomes familiar with the theories of Kirchhoff, Helmholtz and Hertz. After he is lightly injured in experimental class, he is blamed for lack of attention during physics experiments.
Graduates from the ETH Federal Polytechnic in Zürich as a secondary school maths teacher.
Officially becomes a Swiss citizen. Works as substitute teacher at the Technical College in Winterthür Tutor at a private school in Schaffhausen, both in Switzerland. Works on skectches for the theory of relativity. Submits doctoral dissertation to the Zürich University. Tries to become assistant professor in Germany, Netherlands and Italy, but fails.
Illegitimate daughter Lieserl is born to Albert and Mileva.
Patent officer at the Swiss Patent Office. Withdraws his dissertation. Publishes new articles in Annalen der Physik, one about the molecular forces and the differences between metals and their salts and one about the kinetic theory of thermal equilibrium and the 2nd law of thermodynamics.
Father Hermann Einstein dies.
Marries Mileva Maric in Bern.
Co-forms with Maurice Solovine and Conrad Habicht formally the Olympia Academy. Writes for Annalen der Physik about the theory of the foundations of thermodynamics. Family moves to 49 Kramgasse, Bern, this now is the Einstein Museum.
Son Hans Albert born in Bern.
Writes on the general molecular theory of heat for the Annalen der Physik and reviews for the scientific magazine.
Publishes papers about the quantum theory, on the Brownian motion of electromagnetic and light waves in the leading German physics science magazine Annalen der Physik. Presents his famous Theory of Relativity and the specifically mass-energy equivalence E = mc2 in The Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies. Sends his doctoral dissertation A New Determination of Molecular Dimensions to the University of Zürich.
