Johnny Hodges, Sonny Greer, Tyree Glenn and Lawrence Brown all leave the band, and Clark Terry and Louie Bellson become new members.
The Duke Ellington Orchestra performs at the Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island. Duke went back to Columbia Records.
Duke does a special for CBS TV entitled A Drum is a Woman.
Duke writes and records the film score for Anatomy of a Murder. The film is directed by Otto Preminger.
Duke and Louis Armstrong team up to record together. Duke and Count Basie record For the First Time.
Duke records with John Coltrane.
Duke traveled extensively during this period, visiting India, the Middle East, Japan, Mexico , the Soviet Union and Latin America. In 1968, Duke received the Congressional Medal of Freedom from President Richard Nixon in honor of his 70th birthday.
Duke wrote Music is my Mistress.
