Father loses his job because of Ruby. Grandparents are turned off their land.

Starts second grade in a classroom with a few white children.

Artist Norman Rockwell creates the painting The Problem We All Live With depicting Ruby’s daily journey to school guided by US federal marshals.

Finishes William Frantz grade school. Graduates from the integrated Francis T. Nicholls High School. Studies travel and tourism at the Kansas City business school. Works as travel agent around the world for American Express for 15 years.

Marries with Malcolm Hall in 1984 in New Orleans. Full-time parent to their four sons.

Brother Milton is murdered in the streets of New Orleans. Volunteers as a parent-liaison at William Frantz Elementary and writes stories about her volunteer work.

Robert Coles, Bridges' child psychiatrist, publishes The Story of Ruby Bridges, a school textbook.

Oprah Winfrey reunites her with Mrs. Henry on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Actress Chaz Monet portrayes Ruby in the TV movie Ruby Bridges co-starring Penelope Ann Miller as Ruby's teacher, Mrs. Henry.
