First golfer who wins three consecutive US Amateur championships. Wins the US Amateur Championship, Cougar Classic, Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic, NCAA Individual West Regional, PGA Las Vegas Invitational, Tri-Match at Stanford, John A. Burns Invitational, PAC-10 Championship, Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Oregon, The Honors Course at Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the Cleveland Golf Championship. 2nd in the Texas Open. 60th in the Greater Milwaukee Open, first tournament as a pro. 82nd in the US Open. Missed the cut at the Masters Tournament. Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. College and PAC-10 Player of the Year.
